“I read a few things about the courting traditions of different tribes. One thing I had read was that when a man was going to court a certain girl, he would go to where she was living and he would dress in his finest stuff, and her parents would wrap a blanket or robe around them. They could then lift the blanket high over their heads so they could talk privately. He would usually present a gift. Here, in this case, the gift is a beaded knife sheath. The suitors would line up to do this, and sometimes there were many of them. This is a very symbolic and interesting scene.” – Martin Grelle
